Day 17 - Good ole Gift Card

It's a Saturday morning. I woke up to go to a meeting at 9 a.m. at the Bagel Shop. Didn't have time to eat breakfast, so i drank water the entire time. I ate a bowl of cereal when i got back to the house.

For lunch, I decided to use a gift card that I had gotten to Olive Garden. And what did I get? All-you-can-eat soup, salad and breadsticks plus coffee :) MMMMMMMM I believe Olive Garden is my favorite restaurant now. You can get All-You-Can-Eat soup, salad and breadsticks for $7.95!!! That's an amazing deal!

For supper, I had 3 pieces of pizza (left over from Sunday) and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Later on I got hungry again so I ate another peanut butter and jelly sandwich :)

Tomorrow is Sunday!! Volunteering at New Spring!! Gonna see some lives changed...and get some free muffins :)

  1. Sorry, you are NOT eating for $30. What you are doing is eating at places that offer snacks and free food, at churches, with friends and what have you. If you were going to do this, why not do it right and HONEST. I'm NOT saying you stole anything, but saying you are eating from other sources. If you say you are going to eat for $30 a month, then ONLY EAT what you can buy with that $30. There are "REAL" hungry people out there....YOU are NOT one of them. You failed the test. I'm just sorry others have to do without food in a real world and not for 15 minutes of fame. I DARE you to leave this post. Other people see it the same as I do.

  2. To the previous anonymous poster: Go read Jeff's "Day 1" post. He made up his own rules for his own challenge, and he is, by his own account, sticking to those rules. So, because he is abiding by his own rules, and not yours, does that mean he "failed the test"?

  3. From now on out, I shall call Anonymous poster #1 on this page by the name of BOB. Thank you Bob for your post. It is most welcomed.

First of all, I realize that there are people of this world that have to really live off $30 or less per month and I have compassion on those people. Have you given any food to these people? Do you seek out these people on a daily basis to provide food for them? Then i would say that you are as guilty as I. When is the last time that you went into a restaurant and thought about how thankful you were of the food versus what type of service you would get. Truth is, BOB, that we all are guilty at some point of taking for granted what we have and that includes food to eat or money to pay for the food. I am thankful so much that Jesus has allowed me to have money to spend on food and food to eat. Until this challenge I did not realize how thankful I should be for food.

I may have failed YOUR test, but this is not YOUR challenge. Please go back a read Day 1's rules:

"A few rules for the adventure: (1) I cannot spend over $30 on food, (2) I cannot ask for a meal but can eat at someone's house that invites me over, (3) if I invite someone over for a meal, they have to eat from the available rations from the challenge (that should be interesting), and (4) I can work or trade services for food (the good ole barter system)."

Based on the rules, which were set forth in the first place, I am being honest and following the rules. People can do the exact same thing I am doing and only EXPENSE $30 per month. And I am NOT doing this for the FAME, I am doing it to challenge myself to do something different and broaden my perspective.

Oh and by the way Bob, I always like a good DARE, so I left your post up so people can see how ignorant you are of not reading the rules.

Thanks for playing Bob. But, because you didn't read the rules of the game, you lose.

  4. Bob here, whatever....why yes I have given money and food to other people in need, many many times. I also have purchased Christmas presents for the needy on a yearly basis for those that would not have gifts at all if not for good hearted people that care. I also purchase family meals when called for with different organizations to distribute to the needy.

Be it known I also volunteer for a food bank and I do take bags of food in for donations to be distributed also; as many years ago, I was in between a rock and a hard place myself. So I give back to those that may have helped me. God Bless them.

I can tell you one thing to do to help you on your venture for the rest of the month. If you buy either dry pinto beans or kidney beans a pound of ground beef, make a pot of chili, what you can't eat, can be frozen and heated for another day. It goes a long way. It has plenty of protein and vitamins for your health.

Oh and by the way, I'm a female. I wasn't putting you down. Maybe I did misread the rules, but you see, I'm up there in age. You look like a young whipper snapper to me.*grin*
And I am an old southern woman and transplanted in the Pacific Northwest now for 14 years.

So by the grace of God, I am still able to help out with funding and hands on help to those in need.

I wish you the best in your endeavor with this tasking, but please remember, you never know that just MAYBE some old woman misread something. I and very sorry if I did.

    God Bless and Good Wishes.
    "Female" Bob
